A Tuba and a Hail Run

January 02, 2007 - 2:14 pm

I have only just woke up at 2pm, which is disgraceful, however I had an amazing day yesterday and this must surely just be my recovery period. Plus I'm back at work tomorrow so I'm probably stocking up on potential lost sleep.

I spent new year's eve at a dinner party hosted by friend's of TSD. It was all very posh and swanky so when we went through to the TV room to watch hogmanay live on bbc1, myself and a few others were more interested in the old, bashed tuba sitting in the corner than the fast approaching 2007 and offers of champagne. We managed to bring in the bells in the socially acceptable manner then dived for the tuba and blasted it until the room was cleared. I don't think I'd ever played a tuba before. My lips felt like they were still vibrating 20 minutes later.

We got a lift home and christening the new year and the clean sheets before zonking out completely.

The next morning the weather seemed rather nice and TSD had planned to go for a run back to the house from last night to pick up her car. I decided to go with her as it was a doable just under 3 miles and I'd not get the chance to climb or anything. We got changed and stretched and by the time we got down the stairs (no more than 10 minutes later) we ran out the front door past a guy with his son and a dog who were sheltering from hail stones! And not just any hail stones, the kind that there are so much of that anyone who had just woke up would look out their window and assume it was a carpet of snow on the pavements. We could barely run for laughing and luckily that intensity of hail had less stamina than us.
